Evaluation of Base-Stock Policies in Multiechelon Inventory Systems with State-Dependent Demands Part I: State-Independent Policies
نویسنده
چکیده
This article analyzes a model of a multiechelon inventory system. The exogenous demands form Markov-modulated Poisson processes. That is, the demand rates are functions of an underlying Markov chain. Each location follows a base-stock policy which is independent of the state of the underlying Markov chain. We employ the exogenous transit mechanism introduced by Zipkin [7) and Svoronos and Zipkin [ 6 ] . The transit times between locations have phase-type distributions. An exact procedure to compute steady-state performance measures is presented.

Optimal Replenishment Policies for Multiechelon Inventory Problems Under Advance Demand Information
Customers and downstream supply chain partners often place, or can be induced to place, orders in advance of future requirements. We show how to optimally incorporate advance demand information into periodic-review, multiechelon, inventory systems in series. While the state space for series systems appears to be formidably large, we decompose the problem across locations, as in Clark and Scarf ...
متن کاملA Single-Unit Decomposition Approach to Multiechelon Inventory Systems
We show the optimality of state-dependent echelon base-stock policies in uncapacitated serial inventory systems with Markov-modulated demand and Markov-modulated stochastic lead times in the absence of order crossing. Our results cover finite-time horizon problems as well as infinite-time horizon formulations, with either a discounted or an average cost criterion. We employ a novel approach, ba...
متن کاملOptimal and Heuristic Policies for a Multiechelon Inventory Problem with Secondary Market Sales
Most research on supply chain management deals with settings where firms do not voluntarily get rid of inventory in the system. Since voluntary inventory reductions are often observed in practice, in this paper, we propose a (multi-echelon) model where the firm can dispose of excess stock through sales in the secondary market at each stage in the supply chain. What are called nested echelon bas...
متن کاملThe Cost Function for a Two-warehouse and Three-Echelon Inventory System
In this paper, the cost function for a three-echelon inventory system with two warehouses is derived. Transportation times are constant and retailers face independent Poisson demand. Replenishments are one-for-one. The lead time of a retailer is determined not only by the constant transportation time but also by the random delay incurred due to the availability of stock at the warehouses. We co...
متن کاملEvaluating Echelon Stock (R, nQ) Policies in Serial Production/Inventory Systems with Stochastic Demand
T his paper studies echelon stock (R, nQ) policies in serial production/inventory systems with stochastic demand. We provide a recursive procedure to compute the steady state echelon inventory levels of the systems, which can be used to evaluate the long-run average holding and backorder costs as well as other performance measures. The procedure is based upon an observation of a relationship be...
